Stage 5 Classes

7 years to 9 years
Maximum of 6 children per class
30 minute classes

Go Swimming Stage 5 classes are all about swimming greater distances and refining existing swimming techniques. The Go Swimming instructor will continue to work swimming progressions in each stroke, covering kicking, correct body position and full swimming strokes in backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. To pass Stage 5 your child will swim 25 metres of freestyle, 25 metres of backstroke and 15 metres of breaststroke and 15 metres survival backstroke all with correct technique.

Be Consistent!
Consistency is key in swimming lessons. Like all developmental learning, children learn by repetition. A once a week lesson is not a lot of time to spend learning in the water (think about how much time children spend learning skills at school!), so it is important to endeavour to not miss any of your child’s swimming lessons and to remain consistent all year round. If you do miss a lesson or are going away on holidays then please arrange a make-up lesson with us to catch up the missed lesson. We are here to help and we want your child to progress through our swim school to become a safe and confident swimmer!

How Long Will My Child Be in the Stage 5 Class?
By Stage 5 your child is swimming well. However it is unlikely that your child is perfect at all strokes. Usually you will find that a good breaststroke swimmer is not necessarily a good freestyle swimmer, so the Go Swimming instructor will focus on improving a stroke that needs more work. Stage 5 is really about strengthening already competent swimming techniques to allow your child to swim greater distances, and most children will pass through the Stage 5 class in about 3-6 months.
